Vesić signed contracts on the allocation of 5.9 million euros worth grants to six local governments
The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić, signed todaycontracts on non-refundable allocation of funds with the representatives of six local self-governments within the Local Infrastructure and Institutional Development Project – the LIID Project.
After signing the documents, Vesić told journalists at the Government of Serbia that the total value of the nine projects is 5.9 million euros.
Vesić signed grant agreements with representatives of Novi Sad, the municipalities of Svrljig, Novi Bečej, Ljubovije, Bajina Bašta and Odžaci.
He emphasized that projects like this are the best example of how the country should be developed evenly and sustainably, creating the most favorable conditions for a better and more comfortable life for all citizens.
As he said, sustainable local development and continuous work on the reconstruction and construction of infrastructure are key factors in the growth of citizens’ living standards.
Vesić also reminded that eight grant agreements have been signed with eight local self-government units, for the realization of 16 projects, with a total investment value of 12.5 million euros.
“Today we signed contracts for nine more projects, in the amount of 5.9 million euros”, said the Minister and specified that a bicycle path will be built in Novi Sad, and a sports complex will be built in Svrljig.
Vesić added that streets, parking lots and footpaths will be built and reconstructed in Odžaci, Novi Bečej, Ljubovia and Bajina Bašta.
“These kinds of projects are the best examples of our aspirations in building the future of Serbia”, he pointed out and called on other local governments to be more efficient and prepare their projects as soon as possible, because it depends on the local governments how quickly they will get the money.
The Minister also stated that the LIID project is a unique idea of the leaders of Serbia and its partners, the World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD), whom he thanked for their continuous commitment and work in the process of analyzing and approving projects.
“A total of 145 local governments on the territory of Serbia will receive money through the LIID project. Project ideas that solve local infrastructural issues and mean a better quality of life for people are chosen by the local self-governments themselves,” said Vesić.
He also emphasized that this local investment development project is his favorite of all the projects of the Ministry.
“Together with our partners, we allocated 265 million euros for this project for local governments, and it is the first and unique project in Serbia where we give money to local governments free of charge so that they can carry out apparently small programs, but for their citizens very important and big because they raise the quality of their life”, said Vesić.
