Minister Sofronijević signed contracts worth 11.7 million euros with representatives of 15 local governments
Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević, in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Đuro Macuta, signed today with representatives of 15 local governments contracts worth 11.7 million euros on the allocation of grants within the project for the development of local infrastructure and institutional strengthening of local self-government units (LIID).
These are the local government units of Čićevac, Doljevac, Kuršumlija, Nova Crnja, Pećinci, Preševo, Sremski Karlovci, Žitište, Žabari, Smederevo, Kladovo, Knjaževac, Veliko Gradište, Mionica and Čačak, which will spend the funds on various projects to improve the quality of life of their citizens.
“Through this project, the state is helping local government units to become places where people stay, not places where they leave, to develop the economy, infrastructure and employment in accordance with local potential. The goal is not for Belgrade, Novi Sad and other large cities to be the only engines of development, but for every municipality and town to have equal opportunities,” said Minister Sofronijević.
The LIID project is an example of how responsible state policy brings concrete results. More than 265 million euros in grants will be invested in 145 local governments across Serbia.
“Thanks to this project, citizens will live better, they will have better-maintained roads and streets, better-quality lighting, and local authorities will function more efficiently,” emphasized Minister Sofronijević, adding that 16 more contracts worth more than 12 million euros will be signed by the end of November, which means that we are continuing even stronger.
“This, therefore, is not just aid, but a true partnership. The state provides tools and support, but the vision and energy come from each municipality – from the people who know their region best. Together we are building a Serbia that is not only moving forward, but also showing that the state is always there – side by side with local governments. Only by working together can we build an even more beautiful Serbia,” concluded Minister Sofronijević.
