RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SVRLJIG RIVERFRONT COMPLETED – OFFICIAL OPENING ON 31 JULY
The reconstruction of the riverfront along the Svrljiški Timok River in the Municipality of Svrljig has been successfully completed under the LIID Project. The improvement of this important public space has created better conditions for walking, sports, recreation, relaxation and the everyday use of outdoor areas by local residents. The total value of the investment is EUR 1,179,224.94.
The project included the improvement of the left and right banks of the Svrljiški Timok River along a section approximately 400 metres long, as well as the construction and improvement of pedestrian paths, cycling paths and running tracks, together with areas for recreation and exercise. A children’s playground, an amphitheatre and rest areas were constructed, while benches, shelters, drinking fountains, bicycle racks and other facilities intended for users of different generations were installed along the riverfront.
Particular attention was paid to the accessibility and functionality of the area. Stairways and ramps provide easier access to the riverbanks, while the pedestrian, cycling and recreational zones have been arranged to ensure safer and more pleasant use of the riverfront. The installation of new urban furniture has created a modern and well-designed public space in the centre of Svrljig.
The reconstructed riverfront connects important public and sports facilities in Svrljig and provides a new place for gatherings, social activities and the active use of leisure time. The implementation of the project has significantly improved the appearance of the Svrljiški Timok riverbank and enhanced the quality of the public space available to local residents.
The project was implemented as part of the Local Infrastructure and Institutional Development Project – LIID, carried out by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, with the support of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the French Development Agency.
OFFICIAL OPENING
The official opening of the reconstructed riverfront will take place on Friday, 31 July 2026, starting at 8:00 p.m., on the right bank of the Svrljiški Timok River, next to the primary school.
Following the official addresses by representatives of the institutions and the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a cultural and artistic programme and a social gathering will be organised.
