SOFRONIJEVIĆ VISITS SVILAJNAC: INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE
Aleksandra Sofronijević, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure in Serbia’s caretaker government, visited the municipality of Svilajnac, where she inspected the construction of a new road bridge over the Velika Morava River and road rehabilitation works on the Svilajnac–Vojska state road. During the visit, she highlighted the importance of investments in transport and municipal infrastructure for improving connectivity between communities, supporting local economic development and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Sofronijević emphasised that balanced regional development remains one of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure’s key priorities.
“We are doing everything we can to connect people and businesses. Balanced development across Serbia is something this Ministry and the Government have always insisted on,” Sofronijević said.
Speaking about major infrastructure investments in the municipality of Svilajnac, Sofronijević also highlighted the Local Infrastructure and Institutional Development (LIID) Project, under which public space improvement works have been successfully completed in six settlements. She emphasised the importance of these investments in upgrading local infrastructure, improving public spaces used by residents in their daily lives and creating better living conditions for local communities.
A total of approximately EUR 1.27 million has been allocated to the municipality of Svilajnac under the LIID Project, of which EUR 1.18 million has been secured through two signed grant agreements for the implementation of seven projects.
To date, public space improvement works have been successfully completed in six settlements – Kušiljevo, Grabovac, Dublje, Lukovica, Sedlar and the Vračarsko neighbourhood of Svilajnac – with a total value of approximately EUR 737,000. These investments have improved public spaces and contributed to better living conditions for local residents.
Further investments are planned for the coming period. In August 2026, an additional EUR 445,000 was approved for public space improvements in Bobovo, Crkvenac and Gložane. Preparations for the public procurement procedure for these works are currently underway.
The LIID Project is implemented by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure with the support of the World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD). The project aims to improve local infrastructure, strengthen the institutional capacity of local governments and enhance the quality of life for communities across Serbia.
